Last night's events in Amsterdam

[edit]

Are we adding it to this page? https://www.timesofisrael.com/pogrom-in-amsterdam-as-israeli-soccer-fans-come-under-brutal-assault-by-rioters/ https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-828103 MaskedSinger (talk) 10:11, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Given what he and everyone else is say, added it. MaskedSinger (talk) 12:18, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It came out that It was planned in advance on telegram and was referred to as Jew Night during the planning so it’s definitely a pogrom.
wanted to add it to the list of pogroms but that list is locked for me. 71.179.15.198 (talk) 17:51, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The wiki page about the event does not describe the event as a “progrom”. In fact: page is likely going to be renamed from “November 2024 Amsterdam attack” to “Amsterdam 2024 football riot” in an effort to more accurately describe the events. If the main page about the event does not classify it as a “progrom”, this page probably shouldn’t either. Yoshuawuyts (talk) 23:43, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
People saying things doesn't make it true, it is most likely speculation. Adding this to the Wikipedia page can have real harm for the truth, as it implies that it is an actual pogrom, but we don't know for sure. I think it should be removed until it is investigated to be true. Shadowbstr (talk) 12:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
the speed with which the page was updated tells you everything you need to know about blatant bias on display from the editor RUSHING to dilute the meaning of the word pogrom by adding a small fights breaking out after the football match between hooligans disrespecting locals and tearing down flags and local population to the page, warping the narrative and omitting racist displays by the football fans prior to the fights that broke out
A shameful display 62.4.56.209 (talk) 18:36, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quote Amos Goldberg on Amsterdam riots

[edit]

In https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2024/11/14/genocide-en-antisemitisme-expert-amos-goldberg-in-gaza-is-een-genocide-gaande-a4873187 the Jewish scholar amos Goldberg rejects the claim that the events in Amsterdam are a progrom. Right now the section only includes a quote by Israeli state officials. We should include something like the following to also represent the other side:

Claims of the events in Amsterdam being a progrom have been widely disputed. Amos Goldberg, Professor of Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, stated that: “[The riots in Amsterdam] have nothing to do with the progrom” and “the problem is the genocide in Gaza”.
